How to become a CMA

Prepare for the CMA Strategic Leadership Program by taking a look at where you are headed now.

High School

Your school course plan should include post-secondary pre-requisites in Grade 12 English and Math. We also suggest you take some business courses.

University and College

Twenty-one universities in Ontario provide an excellent business education. Some programs are accredited by CMA Ontario to help you fast track to a CMA designation. Several colleges also have bachelor degree programs that now qualify with CMA required courses.

Entrance Exam

Candidates who have completed the required topics with a minimum grade of 60% in each undergraduate course are eligible to write the exam. The testing focuses on Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting, and Taxation.

Work Experience

Practical experience in a management accounting environment is an essential component of the process of becoming a CMA. You use your work experience as part of your CMA training.

CMA training consists of the two-year Strategic Leadership Program. This dynamic program focuses on how innovative enterprises conduct business in the highly volatile and competitive global environment.
